"Summertime" Review for Shameless-Old Post Re-share From TV Line

Shameless returned tonight on Showtime, and while our weekly reviews weren't getting enough hits last season to justify continuing them, I did want to at least review the Season 2 premiere. Though forgive me: I'll have to keep this on the short side, as I'm in the midst of covering the TCA press tour, which is occupying much of my time.

"Summertime" was a bit of a messy episode. With a large cast, the premiere had a lot of plot to cover, picking up with the Gallagher family several months after Season 1 ended. I think the most interesting reveal was that no one knows Eddie killed himself – they think he just took off. So for now, Karen hasn't had to deal with the death of her father, though I'm guessing that body will pop up at some point…

Frank making a ridiculous, $10,000 bet and then desperately trying to find the money was the main through-line here. Him using Liam as a prop essentially, while he panhandled, was a very funny, very Frank low point – and I loved the, "F**k you, Frank!" heard from one guy sitting in his car. The fact that Frank would ultimately leave his son with the guys he owed the money too (and go off drinking) said all you needed to know about Frank.

A little Frank goes a long way though, so, as always, I was most interested in what Fiona, Lip and Ian were up to. It seems Fiona's getting over Steve's absence the only way she knows how: Casual sex. The way they used her current fling (played by James Wolk, from the late, great, and instantly cancelled Lone Star) to bring up Fiona's past in high school, running track, was an interesting facet to her character – and I really liked that end moment of her hauling ass on the track, where it didn't really matter if she could touch her old record, just that she was getting back a bit of her own life -- before she gave everything up for her family -- even for a moment.

The episode got stronger as it went on – Kash just abandoning his family proved what a scumbag he is (not that we really needed that, when he was sleeping with a teenage kid behind his wife's back), while Ian's quest to get into West Point is a compelling new plot turn for him. I'm trying to adjust to the new Mandy though: I really liked Jane Levy in the role, but that whole pesky, "Starring in her own network series" thing got in the way.

Lip's fight club was a bit silly, though it was fun (if that's the right word?) seeing him and Kevin man their ice cream truck, beer and pot included. Overall, the hot summer setting was a very nice contrast to the snowy, cold scenario we saw through much of Season 1.

Shameless can sometimes go too far in terms of how goofy it gets – it's sometimes a bit exhausting, especially where Frank's concerned. But the Gallagher kids, especially the older ones, have enough heart to keep me invested and I was glad to have them back.

So what did you all think of the Shameless premiere? Oh, and while I won't be doing weekly reviews this season, I'll possibly check in a couple of times – and promise to review the season finale.

As a form of entertainment mass media, drama naturally always glamorous show the bright side of the world, suppose who are willing to back home with bad motion, turn on the TV then find there is still much bitterness, so luxurious high society, no impurities the main theme will be an extension of people's obscenity onto the screen, even in the middle of life intrigue, intricate emotions is always the question, money is always in their eyes the dirt. If this is compensation which drama bring to us, that’s could be an awful thing for us.

The theme of hard life in drama show to us is not virgin field, but when someone are using way of humor even in way of mockery to tell stories, you will be shocked by listen to the laughter behind the hidden unforgettable feelings. Drama demonstrated by the United States in the moral bottom line the edge of the urban poor living conditions and brutal struggle style, are allowed to have a decent life exaggerated a black raging temperament. In this movie, although not a child is innocent, but all in the gutter of life sparkling with human glory.

Definition of family in show of Shameless is only in fragments. A little exaggeration, hard to combine a basic unit, Frank Gallagher became only one rely on to the six children after his wife took wings. But as a father, Frank is extremely incompetent, most of his life were spent in a state of alcohol anesthesia, He just idle by defrauding insurance and disability assistance to live, not only in the eyes of the world he is a worthless loser, even in front of their children, he has not the slightest dignity, because in addition to his shame and trouble to the family what have brought not come. He can only be treated as individuals, only having an affair with a married woman Sheila, but this is also a crazy woman. 

Perched on home of a divorced woman who has autism and burdened anguish to play sex game with this woman, only for she did great desserts for him in every accompanying day, wrong to drive him to think that’s normal family life and no men to accuse him. Sometimes in life could be open eyes or could be close eyes, both way are easy to pass all. At the least Frank can find out a bed to survive as all bars noticed suspension to him. Although he live in the world don’t like a normal human being, but he still remains a dress affection of human, and desire there are some people can share life with him, so say to Monica’s come again, this is a big blow to him and drove him into irrational, but no one want to listen this man, though he has huge painful stories, only left a lonely boy shadow in snow.

Reasons of Why People Like to Watch Shameless Series

Shameless was pretty damn hardcore in its initial episodes. It changed from the three or four season, adding some comedic elements. Daddy Frank accidentally took Emmy Award for comedy. This episode also clearly reflects this. The contradictions between Big girl Sammy and Sheila show up in funny ways, silly girl Debbie’s scenes almost go around the firm belief of "I just want to be a damn cougar" , persisting but also very funny.

Lan and Mickey deal with anti-faggy with faggy methods, which carry forward the spirit of new generation of Gallagher thoroughly. Lan’s problem is bound to explode at some time. I feel vaguely that it would be a small climax in the story. But it seems the part of Mickey and Lan in the story is too small. Haven’t the creators considered that a large number of fujoshi live on these two characters?

I didn't like Lip is because he looked so unprepossessing. But this is really a resonant role, especially when he lied on the ground silently, after escaped from the fellow workers with jokes. When Lip refused to go to the college in the beginning, he gave Fiona a reason: no one can save us in this shit community, in this shit family, I could not become the Saviour.

This metaphor showed Lip’s whole tone of college life. He is Gallagher. He cannot leave here no matter how smart and capable he becomes. Lip understand this, but also just understand this point. Uncertain about exactly where he is going, he knows more than the audience.
